Here is a good interractive map of russian roads:
Welcome to Russia:)
If you are brave enough to travel through Russia by car:)
Distances are very big, and roads are not perfect, so be sure you have a good russian speaking guide with you. And prefer not to travel by car from city to city in winter.
Other tips about Russia I will leave in another post, a bigger one and wider.

This link goes to a turkish road map.
Its big so maybe you will have to wait whyle it is opened but, it is detailed and very useful.
I just strongly advice to do it. You dont know what can a car hire company do to earn money.
Please, do not ask me to include tyres in your car insurance. Do you know why?
In Turkey those who say that insurance includes tyres just lie to get clients.
I dont know such an insurance in Turkey.
Today I wil ltell you about reality of Car Insurance in Turkey.
Thanks a very interesting question. If you ask a car hire company if its cars have insurance they will tell you yes.
And it can be a lie and truth at the same moment.
Maybe all of you know what is Casco. Its a good car hire insurance that cover almost everything, and never brings troubles to its customers.
In Turkey all car hire companies have to have ‘Car Hire Casco’. But they do not. Why? Cause it very and very expensive and a car hire company that rents out a car for 40 Liras per day just trying to save it business it can never afford ‘Car Hire Casco’. They pay for a usual one. But if something happens company will not pay a cent and all the responsibility will be upon you. Sure you may try to get good and expensive lawers to prove that, but its Turkey, people support each other and police too.
Big companies that value their reputation always have ‘car hire casco’. But not all.
That’s why please be careful when renting a car. Ask to show document proving it.
Otherwise when you have a crash car hire owner will beg you to tell police that you dont hire this car but you are his friend and use it for free to get money for the car ( it works cause casco is valid if car owners friend has a crash). So it will be up to you, to tell if you are his friend or to pay money.
Take care
On one of the sites I have read a text that sounded like ‘Empty Tank Scam’. It looks that the guy who wrote it was not a car hire owner.
I AM a car hire owner and I know all the problems from inside, so I know why you can have problems with filling tank.
We have such a position as empty tank, and let me explain why.
I give you full tank, you go use it a bit and bring back. The thing is that the sign that shows how many pertol is inside the car dosnt go down at the moment you start using it. Only after some km. We are a car hire company in a small tourism village of Akyaka. People dont go much outside. But rent a car. They can bring the car back, telling that didnt use it, but ı can not check it. To check it I must go to petrol station and fill the tank, so I can understand how much was used.
Even if they went 20 km its still moeny and if I love 20 km of petrol from some customers, it will hurt my business. I do not speak about tourists, who usually dont lie and try to escape from payments but some turkish people can do it and I have to treat the same to everybody.
Then a question may appear: I fill the tank but dont spend much so how can I get money for the fuel left.
Look we give empty tank to you, but there is a bit inside, enough to go to the nearest petrol station, when you go back to give the car, a bit stays in it so everybody is happy.
During 5 years of work in this type of business I have never get any problems from tourists who left a lot of petrol inside. Do you know why? Petrol in Turkey is very expensive. May be one of the most expensive in the world that why tourists fill tank for small money and travel little.
Once, a couple of tourists came and said that they bought 30 Liras petrol but didnt use it. We gave the money them back, cause we believed them.

Airport Surcharges
At most airports (and in some other locations such as ferry ports) the car hire companies have to pay the airport an additional fee to use the airport’s facilities. In many locations this fee is passed on to the customer and must be paid locally at the time of pickup. The terms and conditions of your booking will tell you if the quoted price includes these charges, you are advised to check it carefully.
Additional Drivers
You may wish other members of your party drive the vehicle you have hired while on holiday. For insurance reasons the local hire company must be aware of these people. There is often an extra charge payable locally for additional drivers.
Personal Accident Insurance (PAI)
Is an additional extra that you may be offered when you pick up your hire vehicle. PAI is an additonal insurance which covers the authorized driver(s) and passengers in the hire vehicle for death, disability and medical expenses. Each hire company will have different PAI policy so always be sure to check what is being offered when you actually pick your vehicle up.
Collision Damage Waiver (CDW)
Collision Damage Waiver (CDW), also known as Loss Damage Waiver (LDW), protects the driver from any claim (minus the excess amount) in the event of any damage occurring to the rental vehicle, except where negligence is proved. Note: Collision Damage Waiver is NOT insurance.
Damage Excess Waiver (DEW)
In the case of damage occuring to your car during your rental period you will be required to pay the ammount up to your collision damage waiver. Optional damage excess waiver allows you claim back this excess direct from the booking partner after your rental period is over.
Theft Protection (THP)
In case of theft of the vehicle or its parts, you are only responsable up to the excess charge.
Cancellation Waiver Protection (CWP)
Some of our partners levy a charge for cancellation of bookings prior to the collection date. By taking out cancellation waiver protection at the time of booking, this charge is not payable should you choose to cancel your booking prior to the collection date.
International Driving Permit (IDP)
An International Driving Licence, or IDP, allows you to drive a private motor vehicle abroad when accompanied by a valid UK driving licence.
Out of Hours
In most locations flights will be met and cars supplied outside of normal working hours. However, at some locations there may be an additional charge for this service which is payable locally. Please note that in the event that a flight is delayed, causing the car pick-up to fall outside normal working hours, the additional charge will be made.
Insurance Excess
In the event of accident, or damage to the vehicle, you will be expected to pay a certain amount towards the total repair cost. This is your car insurance excess. The excess on your hire will depend on the local supplier and they will be able to give you more information when you collect your car.
